Originally from rural Mississippi, Neal is a graduate of Idyllwild Arts Academy in southern California and holds a B.F.A. in Dance from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts. He had the immense fortune of working professionally as a dancer for 12 years, performing in major cities around the world with the Trisha Brown Dance Company, Ballet Preljocaj, and choreographer John Jasperse, before retiring at the end of 2014.
Outside of his work in dance, Neal has held a variety of administrative positions, primarily in the health and wellness industry, giving him an array of customer support and operations experience. In 2016, Neal completed a teacher training program in the Pilates method, and plans to return to school to begin prerequisite coursework for a career in healthcare this fall.
Neal moved to Portland in early 2017 with his partner, Josh, after 17 years of living in New York City. He lived and worked in the south of France for two years from 2007-2009, and received the distinguished Princess Grace Fellowship in Dance for his work with Trisha Brown.
Kitchen experiments, fitness, foreign languages, cats, Joan Didion, house music—these are a few of my favorite things!
